We see in color and are naturally drawn to it. Bright colors attract but they can also confuse or distract. I've always felt like I naturally saw in shades of gray and in varying levels of contrast. That's not to say I don't see color - I do. I just like the fact that we focus on the image, its form and shape when presented in monochrome.

I saw these horses standing in the field as the storm behind them was approaching. The light illuminated them for moments and then passed as is the nature of storm light. It is taken with no filters and is a digital image converted from color to B/W.

California, 1995.

This abandoned hanger shows the signs of years of neglect. Rusted metal, peeling paint and not a sole in sight. The early morning sunlight reflected from the white door on this abandoned building in downtown San Antonio. Photographed with a 4x5 view camera and Tri-X film developed in the classic HC-110B developer.

The abandoned living quarters of a military base in San Antonio shows the wear of time and weather on this hinged door. A bit of an homage to Minor White, I wanted to capture the delicate folds of the peeling paint and their individual shadows.
